Yep, by that I mean the 3rd Madoka Magica that takes place after the series. I know at one point I claimed to dislike this series just because it was dark and depressing at times. But then I realized....a lot of the other animes I like can be that way too. Heck, Mawaru Penguindrum (Which is kinda similar to Madoka) was just as dark and sad as Madoka and I love the hell out of that. Yeah, talk about double standard. So I rewatched the series for 2 reasons. 1) So I can watch it with a different mindset. And 2) So I can get prepared for the Rebellion movie. I can safely say I really like the show the second time around, but the movie........what the fuck did I just watched?

No seriously, I have NO idea what I just watched. I mean I was warned that the fan-base was literally split with it, but I didn't think it would be to THIS batshit insane! Let me list down just what goes on without giving away major spoilers.

1. It starts out very similarly to how the show started. At this point I was rather confused because I thought this was meant to be a follow up to where it left off.

2. Once Homura showed up, it made me even more confused. She even had her hair in two tails and was wearing her glasses. But as things went on, things started to add up.

3. It turns out that the events of this film has to do with Nagisa Momoe. The little girl that appears on the poster. At first it seems like she's the master mind, but it turns out it's something else.

4. So everything's revealed and by the end of the climax, it does seem that everything will go back to normal...............................then the last 20 minutes happened.

I mean......I was both shocked and confused by the remaining few minutes. I literally don't know whether it's a happy ending or not. Because it just feels like a spit in the face to the beautiful ending the series had. (Heck, I'd dare say it even topped Full Metal Alchemists' ending) Apparently Gen Urobuchi planned a much more satisfying conclusion, but Ayayuki Shinbo thought up EVERYTHING that happened in the ending that we were given....and for some reason Gen approved of it. I mean, if I was him, I wouldn't been like....."GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY OFFICE SHINBO!" But no.....he rejected his own idea in favor of someone else's......kinda a poor choice for ANY creative mind. Unless the other person's idea MAY be better, you should only go with the ideas that YOU thought up of, and believe that they could work.

Heck, as far as conclusions go, this is kind of like The End of Evangellion of Madoka Magica, and I KNOW the show is better than that. I hope to GOD that Madoka could at least get a second season to explain everything, or better yet, just re-retcon everything to get the ending Urobuchi intended!

I mean.....it just seems like the best option for a series like this...I wouldn't say skip this movie because it's one of those films that has to be seen to believe, but let me just say this. YOU. HAVE. BEEN. WARNED.

Yeah, Rebellion was quite a conflicting experience for me too. Most of it had to do with the ending. It was all standard fare until that plot twist. I think it may become a film I need to re-watch multiple times to fully grasp the entirety of it.

But, the thing about the story about making the film is that Urobuchi had no intention of making any sequel to the original series. So, keeping in touch with what Urobuchi would've intended, Rebellion shouldn't really exist and that the story would end the way the series ended. But, you shouldn't really put the blame entirely on Shinbou, as it was actually the producer of Rebellion: Atsuhiro Iwakami, who swayed Shinbou's line of thinking and Urobuchi kind of reluctantly went along with it. So, with the ending, there's probably going to be more instalments.

I really want this "franchise" to end sooner rather than later. If they keeping milking it, I'm not going to be mad; but I will be very disheartened. There's only so much Urobuchi can do and that he wants to draw his attention to other things. If they keep forcing him to write more backgrounds for these characters that we know all too well, then he might be tempted to call it quits - or at least take a really long hiatus.
