Toys vs. Pets

Ah, I remember when the first trailer for Secret Life of Pets came out, people left and right were declaring it as "Toy Story with Pets" or, "Oh it looks like a Toy Story ripoff"....and those comparisons didn't go away when the movie came out. Now....too Pets defense, if you take Toy Story out of the aquasion, this has been a premise and story structure that's been done many other times in other films. Heck, LewToons made comparisons to The Rugrats Movie with Pets, I could compare the film to the crappy Live Action Garfield film, I could also see parallels to Oliver and Company and Homeward Bound II, and you could argue that The Boss Baby also did the exact same plot that both films did. Plus, I don't think Toy Story was the even the first product to do this kind of plot. But with that said....there were still scenes and aspects that did make me think of Toy Story in particular, which didn't really help.

But you know what I find pretty freaky? It's the fact that The Secret Life of Pets 2 and Toy Story 4 are coming out, not just the same year, not just the same summer....but the exact same MONTH as each other! Either Illumination are aware of the comparisons and this is their way of going head to head with Pixar, or this is just one big silly coincidence. You be the judge. Though while I personally didn't ask for either film, I think you guys can guess which one I'LL be rooting for....
